A Little Room (Ein Räumchen)

For the art vending machine “Konkret-o-mat” at the Museum of Concrete Art Ingolstadt, I conceived and crafted 40 boxes, each containing a small three-dimensional origami. The boxes can be purchased directly from the machine for €5—an incidental act of acquisition, similar to buying sweets or cigarettes.

For the origami pieces, I use various papers from my everyday life: pages from magazines I subscribe to, bank statements, diary notes, and memos. Through the act of folding, I transform these flat yet highly personal documents into three-dimensional spatial structures.

This process raises a question for me: “In today’s world, can everyone possess a personal space of their own?” For me, the small origami is more than an object; it is a fragment of my own private space, which I offer to the buyer as a private space of their own. My innermost place of retreat thus becomes a portable fragment, leaving my own space to become part of another’s.
